Romina Pino, Key Account Manager at GGP Media, passes through the control point. She then approaches the lorries in the yard and watches the crates of bestsellers, which are packed up with privacy film, as they disappear into the back of the lorry. She watches the driver as he shuts the doors and puts the seal on the door lock. Each year, around 250 million printed copies leave GGP Media, which equates to eight books per second. Only a few require this level of security. Nevertheless, Romina Pino is ready for any eventuality. Measures range from offline data separation – by using physical security copies that are stored at a variety of secure locations – through to deploying security staff to carry out security checks on employees.

Romina Pino relies on close coordination with her colleagues for the best possible production process.

Environmental awareness

“Together with the customer, my task is to develop the best possible production process. Alongside checking that this process is observed, of course,” the 31-year-old manager explains with pride as she approaches her office. “Our customers usually come to us with clearly defined goals.” Alongside the issue of security, these goals also relate to the sustainable use of materials, which is assured with the FSC®, PEFC or Imprim’Vert certifications. Romina Pino at GGP Media is also concerned about environmentally friendly energy usage. “There has been a complete change in customer requirements.”

Black privacy film ensures that nobody sees the new bestseller before its release date.

Growing with the tasks

She enters her office, puts down her bag and looks out of the window. Outside, another sealed lorry is leaving the site. “We have achieved a lot in recent years. We now store the waste heat from our printing plant in our heating system and in winter, we use the external temperature to cool the plant instead of chillers. All in all, by implementing these measures and investing in environmentally friendly processes, we have reduced our natural gas consumption by 85 percent since 2005.” Both Romina Pino and GGP Media have been growing with the tasks. “Each day, we print more than 400,000 books and more than 500,000 commercial products. This means we have a great deal of responsibility for the environment. This responsibility is not just on behalf of our customers. We have committed ourselves to these values.”

GGP Media uses certified raw materials in its production processes. Romina Pino is very familiar with the advantages of FSC® und PEFC.

Silence is golden Romina Pino speaks with great energy. The vivacious half-Cuban has found her calling in Pößneck. Her team is well-coordinated. They know each other well, spend time together outside of working hours and enjoy life in this small town. “I like it when I bump into people I know in the town and we catch up on each other’s news.” Another sealed lorry then leaves the secure site full of copies of a bestseller. The security guard carries out a check on the next visitor. In the screened-off printing area, one of the most spectacular new releases is being printed. Romina’s friends value her warm, open personality. Nevertheless, there are some pieces of news that she keeps to herself. And rightly so!
